Joseph Bennett was born on January 26, 1922, in Pittsburgh, Pa. He received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University in 1943, and continued there for his post-graduate studies through 1946. While interested in piano and skin diving, Bennett also served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946. After the war, Bennett began to work with Willington & Co., a New York investment bank. Also in 1946, Bennett co-founded The Hudson Review . He also wrote some books of his own, including Baudelaire: A Criticism (1944, 1946 2nd ed.), Decembrist (1951), and Luxury Cruise (1962). Bennett died in 1972.
