Martin Gardner was the Mathematical Games columnist for SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN from its inception in 1956 until 1986. He earned his B.A. in philosophy at the University of Chicago in 1936; after his service in the Navy during World War II, he became a writer. He is the author of more than 65 books in the fields of science, mathematics, philosophy, literature, and conjuring.

Martin Gardner was the Mathematical Games columnist for SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN from its inception in 1956 until 1986.
