Benjamin notes that, in lieu of adequate candle rations, he is using the grease leftover from fried pork to light his "slut" lamp. He also disparages southern women's cooking, and believes he will return to the north unable to communicate with the women for he has only minimal contact with women in the army, and they are all "sesesh."
