Soap savers were a tool useful for households where economy and frugality were considerations. This object enabled the user to get the most out of soap that had been purchased or made. The wire mesh "box" at the end of the handle opens to hold soap. Often scraps and slivers or soap that were far too small to use in any other way were placed inside. The soap saver was then swished in the water to create soap suds. These objects were used most commonly used from 1920 until the 1940's.
