Letter - October 6, 1862

In this letter to his sister, Horace notes he has been sick with dysentery and he discusses the use of opium as a remedy and a morale booster. He also describes the invalid detail and the way the unit operates. Horace goes on to complain about other soldiers' laziness and their plundering habit. Finally, Horace tells a story about a drunk Union soldier who was shot by a Union guard while he was out searching for more whiskey.
