Davis describes an attack by Confederate forces the previous Saturday on Holly Springs while his regiment was around forty miles south. Confederate forces burnt down the Government stores, civilian property, the regiment's stores, and blew up the magazine, in addition to tearing up a portion of the railroad. Another railroad obstruction stopped the mail for two weeks, and Davis is currently on detail husking corn. Davis mentions that they still have not been paid and do not expect to until the war is over.
