This collection contains newspaper clippings, brochures, correspondence, grant applications and proposals, minutes, career conference files, speeches, programs, press releases, intern reports, biographies, photographs, negatives, color slides, contact sheets, color transparencies, audiotapes and Mary Ann Evans’ Director’s Records.



This collection of records provides an overview of the work of the Program for Women in Science and Engineering. The News clippings series contains newspaper articles about PWSE activities, as well as general articles pertaining to women in science and engineering. The Annual Reports series contains the printed reports written by the PWSE staff each year. Newsletters include issues of the “PWSE Newsletter,” and “Endeavors,” which cover the activities and accomplishments of women at Iowa State University. The Printed Materials series includes newspaper clippings, newsletters, and brochures pertaining to the work of the Program. The Administrative Files series contains correspondence, applications for the Carver Trust scholarships, grant proposals and applications, minutes of the Executive Committee and Advisory Board, and a statement of purpose. The Workshop series is the largest series in the collection and documents the Program’s Career Conferences for precollege girls. A wide variety of information is included about the actual running of the conferences and includes speaker information, program packets, costs, participant lists, correspondence, and follow-ups.

The Outreach and Education series contains the records of the intern programs conducted by the Program. Of special interest are the final intern reports which discusses the various intern projects. The Visual Materials series contains black and white prints, color prints, color slides, contact sheets, and negatives and depict activities of the Program, such as the Career Conferences, Governor’s Conference, role model visits, workshops, interns, and publicity. The Audiotapes series has recorded the meetings of the Committee on Women in Science and Engineering, keynote speeches at the Career Conferences, Women’s Week, the PWSE Focus Group, role model presentations, and mentoring meetings.

The International Women in Science and Engineering (IWISE) series contains materials related to international programs for women at Iowa State University, grants for developing programs in other countries, international conferences, and sources from other organizations, including African Women in Science and Engineering (AWSE) and the United Nations Educational, Social, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
