Correspondence regarding the American Statistical Association, 1840-1844
This collection of letters (1840-1844) contains the initial responses for those invited to join the recently inaugurated American Statistical Association. The respondents include well-known statisticians such as Edward Jarvis, Francis Lieber, J.M. Peck, and William Prescott. The initial letter, written by ASA Secretary Joseph B. Felt, was sent (along with the constitution and by-laws) to nominated individuals after the ASA organizing meeting held in November 1839. These letters were used in an exhibit for the ASA Sesquicentennial in 1989.
