Biography/Profile

In 1967, the Board of Regents approved the establishment of the Design Center, operated jointly by the Departments of Applied Art, Architecture, and Landscape Architecture, with the chairship placed on a rotating basis. The purpose of the alignment was to improve education for professional practice in design and to coordinate the existing educational functions and services provided by the three separate departments. The programs were administered by the Design Center Council, composed of the heads of the three departments.

The creation of the College of Design was approved by the Board of Regents in November 1977 and the College was formally organized July 1, 1978, with academic Departments of Art and Design, Architecture, Community and Regional Planning, and Landscape Architecture.

In 2010, the College reorganized its four original departments into seven: Architecture, Art and Visual Culture, Community and Regional Planning, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Interior Design, and Landscape Architecture.
