Biographical / Historical Note

The Las Vegas-Clark County Consolidation Records chronicle the efforts of Mayor Jan Jones and other administrators to merge the City and County governments. A basic goal was to eliminate the duplication of services, such as flood control, health, water, and tourism departments, between the City and County. The Administrative Organization called for an eleven-member County Board to oversee all departments which would provide services on an areawide basis. Although successful in other states, consolidation of the City of Las Vegas and Clark County was defeated by the voters of Nevada in 1977 and again in the early 1990s.
