Biographical / Historical Note

The Installation Restoration Program (IRP) was an outgrowth of the Defense Environmental Quality Program Policy Memorandum of December, 1981. It was implemented by the United States Air Force in January, 1982 to ensure compliance of military installations with existing federal environmental regulations. The purpose of the policy is to identify and evaluate suspected problems associated with past hazardous material disposal sites on Department of Defense (DOD) facilities, to control the migration of hazardous contamination health and control hazards to health and welfare that resulted from these past operations.
