Abstract

The United States National Park Service Photograph Collection is comprised of black-and-white photographic prints and negatives from approximately 1925 to 1950. Images include construction and remediation projects in Boulder City, Nevada; including Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, and the surrounding recreation area. Also included are images of the Lost City Museum in Overton, Nevada and Fort Churchill in Lyon County, Nevada; construction of tourist facilities at the Valley of Fire in southern Nevada; and landscapes taken along the Colorado River in Arizona and Utah.

Scope and Contents Note

The United States National Park Service Photograph Collection is comprised of black-and-white photographic prints and negatives from approximately 1925 to 1950. Images include construction and remediation projects in Boulder City, Nevada; including Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, and the surrounding recreation area. Also included are images of the Lost City Museum in Overton, Nevada and Fort Churchill in Lyon County, Nevada; construction of tourist facilities at the Valley of Fire in southern Nevada; and landscapes taken along the Colorado River in Arizona and Utah. A significant number of images relate to the development of the Boulder Dam State Park, today known as the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, the first state park created cooperatively between the National Park Service (NPS) and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).
