The Ardis Kearns Papers (1807-1995) contain correspondence, planning and zoning ordinances, committee reports, newspaper clippings, newsletters, and publications documenting her various social and political activities. The materials date primarily between 1960 and 1983, with some papers dating to the 1920s and two publications dating to 1807 and 1808.

The Ardis Kearns Papers (1807-1995) contain correspondence, planning and zoning ordinances, committee reports, newspaper clippings, newsletters, and publications documenting her various social and political activities. The materials date primarily between 1960 and 1983, with some papers dating to the 1920s and two publications dating to 1807 and 1808. The various social and political issues documented by her papers include juvenile delinquency; criminal justice system reforms; Clark County, Nevada land use; energy use and environmental pollution; and the League of Women Voters.

Biographical / Historical Note
Las Vegas, Nevada community activist Ardis Kearns joined the League of Women Voters of the Las Vegas Valley (LWVLVV) chapter in 1956 and was instrumental in the organization's first meeting, held in Las Vegas in 1964. In 1975, she was elected as the League of Women Voters of Nevada president and her motto for the two-year term was "The League Does Make a Difference." In addition to her extensive work with the League, Kearns was a member of the Southern Regional District Allocation Committee on Police and Criminal Justice from 1974 to 1977.
Ardis Kearns was married to Hadley M. Kearns, but they divorced on February 03, 1972. Kearns died in December 28, 2000.
