Biographical / Historical Note

Hollywood Casino Corporation was founded in 1990 by the Pratt Hotel Corporation and was based in Dallas, Texas. Pratt Hotel Corporation, after acquiring a hotel casino in Puerto Rico in 1975 and the Sands Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey in 1981, decided to enter the gambling industry by establishing Hollywood Casino Corporation and divested many of the hotels it owned during the process. Hollywood Casino Corporation operated several hotel casinos and riverboat casinos in Illinois, Mississippi, and Louisiana with decor inspired by movies and classic film. In 2003, Hollywood Casino Corporation was acquired by Penn National Gaming Inc. for approximately $328 million.

Materials were acquired periodically by UNLV Special Collections and Archives from a variety of sources; accession numbers 2014-084 and 2019-091.

Processing Note

Materials were minimally processed during accessioning by Hannah Robinson in 2014. In 2019, as part of an archival backlog elimination project, Kyle Gagnon compiled additional materials from multiple sources that included subject files and previously cataloged materials. Kyle Gagnon wrote the finding aid.
