Gilbert Schwartz Papers (MS-00861)

Abstract

The collection documents Gilbert Shwartz's early involvement with the Clark County Sheriff's Mounted Posse and the Elks Club in the early 1960s as well as the growth of his real estate company, Sahara Realty, from 1963 to 2008. The collection includes photographs and programs of the Clark County Sheriff's Mounted Posse Rodeo and programs for the Elks Club Helldorado Days Rodeo from the early 1960s. The collection also includes photographs of Schwartz and his home, slides of Sahara Realty/Realtors advertising around Las Vegas, and autographed team photographs of the Central Little League teams sponsored by Sahara Realty. Also included is a program for the National Association of Real Estate Brokers annual conference held in Las Vegas in 1974.

Scope and Contents Note

The collection documents Gilbert Shwartz's early involvement with the Clark County Sheriff's Mounted Posse and the Elks Club in the early 1960s as well as the growth of his real estate company, Sahara Realty, from 1963 to 2008. The collection includes photographs and programs of the Clark County Sheriff's Mounted Posse Rodeo and programs for the Elks Club Helldorado Days Rodeo from the early 1960s. The collection also includes photographs of Schwartz and his home, slides of Sahara Realty/Realtors advertising around Las Vegas, and autographed team photographs of the Central Little League teams sponsored by Sahara Realty. The collection also documents Schwartz's work with his real estate company including newspaper clippings related to the company, marketing produced by the company, and paperwork for land bought and sold by Sahara Reality in Las Vegas, Nevada. Also included is a program for the National Association of Real Estate Brokers annual conference held in Las Vegas in 1974.

Biographical / Historical Note

Gilbert Schwartz was born in 1924 in the Bronx, New York and was raised in Rye, New York. By 1945 Schwartz had married and formed BUDD Management, the property management arm of his father's commercial real estate business. After he separated from his first wife in 1959, Schwartz and his two children moved to Las Vegas, Nevada residing in the Twin Lakes area. Schwartz joined the Clark County Sheriff's Mounted Posse and the Elks Club. In 1963, he opened up his own real estate office, Sahara Realty (later Sahara Realtors). Sahara Realty/Realtors was in business from 1963 to 1982 before being sold to Coldwell Banker. As of 2018 Gilbert Schwartz and his wife Norma live in Henderson, Nevada and are members of the Nevada Water Color Society and the Anthem Sun City golf association.

Collection was donated by Gilbert Schwartz in 2017; accession number 2017-134.

Processing Note

The collection was minimally processed by Tammi Kim in 2018 at the time of accessioning. The materials were quickly reviewed to provide a general description of the contents of each box and an estimate of dates represented in the material. Loose papers were foldered. In 2018, Maggie Bukowski minimally processed the items related to Sahara Realty. No further work was performed on the materials.
