Abstract

The Art Sloan Collection of Las Vegas Memorabilia (1931-2005) consists of items from Las Vegas, Nevada casinos and hotels such as the Flamingo, El Rancho, and Hotel Last Frontier. Materials include ashtrays, silverware and glassware, postcards, photographs, dice, playing cards, matchbooks, and other casino memorabilia. Materials also include Nevada license plates from 1933 and 1936 and a hard hat from the construction of the Hoover Dam.

Scope and Contents Note

The Art Sloan Collection of Las Vegas Memorabilia (1931-2005) consists of items from Las Vegas, Nevada casinos and hotels such as the Flamingo, El Rancho, and Hotel Last Frontier. Materials include ash trays, silverware, postcards, photographs, dice, playing cards, and casino memorabilia. Materials also include Nevada license plates from 1933 and 1936 and a hard hat from the construction of the Hoover Dam. Included in the collection is a 1951 Jennings Sun Chief slot machine from the Flamingo Hotel and Casino.

Materials were donated in 2010 by Art Sloan; accession number 2010-06.

Processing Note

The collection was minimally processed by Tammi Kim and Maggie Bukowski in 2017 at the time of accessioning. The materials were quickly reviewed to provide a general description of the contents of each box and an estimate of dates represented in the material. Loose papers were foldered. No further work was performed on the materials. In 2020, Lauren Paljusaj updated the inventory in ArchivesSpace.
