Biographical / Historical Note

The Kiwanis Club is a "global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time," and the Kiwanis Club of Las Vegas has been serving the Southern Nevada community since 1925. Sponsored by the San Bernardino chapter, the Kiwanis Club of Las Vegas held their first meeting December 4, 1925 in Las Vegas High School and remains an active chapter as of 2020. The Kiwanis Club held their meeting in Las Vegas High School, the coffee shop at the Union Pacific Depot, and many other locations across Las Vegas. Senator Pat McCarran presented the bell from the USS Nevada to the Kiwanis Club of Las Vegas in 1950 to honor their longstanding service to Southern Nevada. In 2008, the Kiwanis Club dedicated the Kiwanis Plaza and Diorama at the newly built Springs Preserve to honor the club's history of water conservation and public education on native, drought-tolerant desert plantings.
