Biographical / Historical Note

Scientific Games Holdings Corporation was an instant lottery ticket manufacturer based in Alpharetta, Georgia, with manufacturing plants in Gilroy, California, and Albert Lea, Minnesota. They provided instant tickets to more than half of the U.S. Jurisdictions with approved lotteries. The corporation was founded in 1973 in Alpharetta, Georgia. They introduced the first secure instant scratch-off lottery ticket in 1974. Instant tickets are played by removing a coating from a preprinted lottery ticket to determine whether the player is a winner. Bally Manufacturing bought Scientific Games Holding Corporation in 1982.

On October 06, 1995, Scientific Games Holding Corporation announced the release of its “SCISCAN” technology. The device permitted keyless validation of winning scratch-off tickets. In 2000, Autotote Corporation, manufacturer of wagering systems for the parimutuel industry, made a deal to purchase Scientific Games Holding Corporation for about $310 million. On April 27, 2001, Autotote Corporation changed its name to Scientific Games Corporation.
