Abstract
The Janice Allen Papers are comprised of photographs, various publications, awards, a scrapbook, correspondence, memoranda, and newspaper clippings dating from 1953 to 2011 that document Janice Allen's philanthropic and political work in the state of Nevada. The materials document Allen's involvement with the Las Vegas Junior League, the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and other volunteer work. The collection also contains correspondence received by Allen from various United States politicians, most notably the Republican Senatorial Inner Circle.

The Janice Allen Papers are comprised of photographs, various publications, awards, a scrapbook, correspondence, memoranda, and newspaper clippings dating from 1953 to 2011 that document Janice Allen's philanthropic and political work in the state of Nevada. The materials document Allen's involvement with the Las Vegas Junior League, the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and other volunteer work. The collection also contains correspondence received by Allen from various United States politicians, which include invitations to political rallies and speeches given by President Ronald Reagan, President George H. W. Bush, and Vice President Dan Quayle, as well as the Republican Senatorial Inner Circle chairman and former Nevada Senator Don Nickles. The materials relating to Allen's work with the Junior League include meeting minutes, communication about various projects, most notably the creation of Fantasy Park, and newspaper clippings about League activities. The collection provides information about the type of philanthropic and social work done by women in the mid-to late twentieth century. The material about Beta Sigma Phi includes newspaper clippings about events Allen was involved in and magazines published by the sorority.

Biographical / Historical Note
Janice Allen born September 21, 1927 and raised in Sebring, Ohio. She moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1948. Allen attended Wesleyan College in West Virginia where she wrote for the college's newspaper and served as class secretary. After her move to Las Vegas, Allen wrote for the

Materials were donated in 2018 and 2019 by Janice Allen; accession numbers 2018-051 and 2019-063.
Processing Note
A box-level inventory of the accession was created by Maggie Bukowski in February 2019 and was updated by Joseph Puentes in November 2019. To prepare the inventory, the described materials were reviewed to create a contents list, estimate dates, and identify material types. No other work has been performed on the materials.
