Abstract

The Alan Paine Papers are largely comprised of the works written by poet and screenwriter Alan Paine, including his screenplays, a manuscript for an unpublished book, and Ode to Madonna, a collection of poems published in 1992. The collection also includes correspondence, personal ephemera, and photographs from 1975 to 2002.

Biographical / Historical Note

Alan Paine was an award-winning poet and a resident of Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born Al K. Williams on November 30, 1956, but changed his name to Alan Paine in 1991. He earned a Bachelor's of Arts in broadcast communication from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 1981 and a Bachelor's of Science in counseling psychology from Brighton University in 2000. He held many jobs in the Las Vegas valley, most of them involving acting, physical education, or computer education. He also volunteered as a phone counselor for the Suicide Prevention Center of Clark County, Inc. As a poet, Alan Paine published one collection of poems in 1992 and won several awards, including the Golden Poet Award in 1991 and 1992, as well as the 1996 Editor's Choice Award from The National Library of Poetry.
