Show moreThe National Scientific Balloon Facility (NSBF) Annual Report FY 1981 includes information on flight services by the NSBF, electronics improvements, operations improvements, research and development, long duration, operational support, plant support, failures, miscellaneous projects, personnel, funding, panel meetings, base improvements, and plans for FY 1982. During FY 1981, 53 flights were flown in support of 38 scientists representing 26 research organizations. Five flights were flown from Brazil, Hawaii, and Greenville, South Carolina. The flight success rate was 86.6%. Highlights of the year included the NASA Atmospheric Science Correlative Measurement Program, sea recovery of Hawaiian flights, and Sky Anchor long duration flight with duration of 43.5 hours with a 1200lb payload. A special workshop on the National Needs for Scientific Ballooning was also held. Show less
