Show moreThe UCAR COSMIC Data Analysis and Archival Center (CDAAC) receives the COSMIC data in near real-time, and performs the functions of precise orbit determination (POD), excess phase calibration, neutral atmospheric inversion, quality control checking, and dissemination of data products to operational weather centers within 3 hours of observation. The CDAAC also generates more precise post-processed data products for climate applications. This presentation initially gives an overview of the precise orbit determination processing details performed at the CDAAC. Then, the presentation provides an assessment of COSMIC post-processed and near real-time POD quality. Preliminary comparisons of adjacent post-processed daily orbit solutions (i.e. internal orbit overlaps) are consistent at the level of ~10 cm (0.1 mm/s) 3D RMS. Differences between post-processed UCAR orbits and orbits from other agencies (i.e. external orbit overlaps) are consistent at the level of ~20 cm 3D RMS. An assessment of near real-time POD quality will also be shown. An analysis of collocated COSMIC atmospheric profiles will also be presented to demonstrate the quality of COSMIC POD at UCAR. Show less
