Spatial dissimilarity measures for comparing spatial fields
Gilleland, E. (2021). Spatial dissimilarity measures for comparing spatial fields: A quick introduction to measures available with the Model Evaluation Tools.

Estimating a "distance" (or "dissimilarity") between two sets of points, on the other hand, is challenging. Several measures were proposed for comparing binary photograph images since the 1960s and were rigorously tested for use in the domain of weather forecast verification more recently. Each has its merits and drawbacks and new measures have been proposed to better handle some of the difficult scenarios that can occur in weather forecast verification. This white paper summarizes the measures provided with the Model Evaluation Tools software and demonstrates their properties. Show less
