Stephen Stavro was born in 1921 to Rako and Evanthia Stavro, immigrants to Jamaica Plain, MA, from Albania. He attended Boston Latin School and Boston College, graduating from BC in 1944 with both a BS and an MS in Chemistry. While at BC, he was heavily involved in the Dramatic Society as a photographer and a member of the production crew. In 1949, he married Alyce Lazar Stavro, and they had two children: Barry Stavro and Deborah Stavro Lapides. He worked for Sylvania Electric after graduating from BC, where he earned a U.S. Patent in 1951 for an early design of electrodes. In the late 1950s, he moved to work for MACOM, a microwave and electronics firm. He was an avid photographer and golfer throughout his life. Stavro died on December 12, 2022, at the age of 101.
