Sir James Ware

Sir James Ware (1594-1666), Irish historian, was born in Dublin on 26 November 1594, and attended Trinity College, Dublin (M.A., 1616). He was auditor-general of Ireland from 1632 to around 1649, and served as the member of parliament for Dublin University, 1634-1637 and 1661. He was banished from Dublin by General Michael Jones, the parliamentary governor, in 1649, and lived in London from 1651 to 1660. He returned to Dublin in 1660, and was reinstated as auditor-general. Ware collected Irish manuscripts and published Irish histories and biographies. He died in Dublin on 1 December 1666.
