Arthur C. Benson was an English author and educator. He was born at Wellington College, where his father was headmaster, and attended Eton and King's College, Cambridge. After graduation, he became schoolmaster at Eton, earning a reputation as an excellent instructor and publishing several books, including novels, poetry, histories, and essays. He was also asked to edit letters of Queen Victoria in 1903. He later became affiliated with Magdalene College, eventually becoming president, a role he filled successfully despite troubles in his personal life. A prolific and popular essayist, Benson had a positive influence on countless lives in his role as educator.
