Alex W. Bealer was born in 1921 in Valdosta, GA. He received his BA at Emory University in 1942. He did graduate work at Northwestern University in 1946. He served in the US Marine Corps 1942-1945 and 1950-1952. He was a blacksmith, woodworker, advertising executive and author of books for both children and adults. His book Only the Names Remain was an ALA Notable Book. He died in Atlanta, GA in 1980. Biographical Source: Something About the Author, v. 8, p. 6, v. 22 p. 26.
