Meloy, Guy S., 1903-1968
Variant namesGuy S. Meloy, Jr. (b. Sept. 4, 1903, Lanham, Maryland-d. Dec. 14, 1968), General in the U.S. Army, graduated from West Point in 1927. Among many other assignments, he served in the first tank destroyer battalion organized in the U.S. Army and was chief of staff, 103rd Infantry Division during World War II in Europe. Following the War, he was a professor of military science and tactics and, later, commander of the 24th Infantry Division, serving in combat during the Korean War when seriously wounded. He also commanded the 1st Infantry Division in Europe, was Chief of Public Information at the Department of the Army, and commanded the 5th Army and the VII Corps. In 1961 he became commander-in-chief of the UN Command, commander of U.S. Forces Korea, and commanding general, 8th Army. He retired in 1963.

Guy S. Meloy was a U.S. Army officer who graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1953. A graduated f the Army Command and General Staff College, he also served as an instructor teaching joint airborne operaions. After volunteering for service in Vietnam in 1965, Meloy was initially assigned to Military Assistance Command Vietnam (MACV) as an advisor to the Vietnamese Airborne Division, then was reassigned as the U.S. advisor to the Division's Task Force One. In July 1966, Meloy was transferred to command of the 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. During Meloy's second tour in Vietnam from 1970 to 1971, he was assigned as commander of the 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division. After rising through the ranks, Meloy was eventually Division Commander of the 82nd Airborne Division from 1978 to 1981. He retired from the Army in 1982.
