Daniel D. Slauson, a native of New York State, was a surgeon at the hospital of the Corps d'Afrique at Port Hudson, La., and later an agent of the Freedman's Bureau. He subsequently practiced medicine in East Feliciana Parish, La., while residing at Morchy and Johnson Plantations, whose cotton-growing operations he oversaw.
