Mildred V. Leonard was born in 1912 in Spokane, Washington. She moved to Washington, D.C. in the 1940s, and attended the Washington School for Secretaries. She also worked on the staff of Congressman Joseph W. Martin, Jr. Leonard was personal secretary to Gerald R. Ford from about 1949 or 1950 to 1972. She served as Administrative Assistant to Congressman Gerald Ford from 1972 to 1973, Personal Assistant to Vice President Ford from 1973 to 1974, and Personal Assistant to President Ford from 1974 to 1976. She died in Bethesda, Maryland on October 9, 1993.
