Regional office of the AFL-CIO, the national federation of labor unions formed by the merger of the American Federation of Labor and the Congress of Industrial Organizations in 1955.
The regional directors are appointed by the president of the AFL-CIO to represent him by administering staff and regional organizations in carrying out the policies set forth by the national organization. Reorganization in 1974 redrew geographic regions, changing Region 14 (Illinois and Iowa) to Region 1 (Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin).
