Willis F. Harrington was born on July 24, 1882, in Farmington, Delaware. He graduated from the University of Delaware in 1902 and took a degree in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1905 he went to work for the Du Pont Company in the Explosives Department and in 1924 he became general manager of the Dyestuffs Department. In 1927 he became vice president and two years later was named to the executive committee. As an advisor on chemical and development matters, he helped develop the fundamental research program. In the 1930s Harrington was chief liaison between the executive committee and the Service Department which during this period was responsible for employee relations. In this capacity he helped to frame Du Pont's industrial relations and welfare policies. Harrington retired in 1947 and died in Wilmington on September 8, 1960.
