French geologist and traveller. Barthélemy Faujas-de-Saint-Fond was appointed assistant naturalist to the Muséum d'histoire naturelle by Louis XVI, and became the first professor of geology at the Jardin des Plantes in 1793. He had a close connection with the Freycinet family and was a friend of Sir Joseph Banks.
