Henry Winters Luce was a missionary educator in China from 1897 to 1927. Following his return to the United States he was appointed to a professorship in the Chinese department of the Kennedy School of Missions of the Hartford Theological Foundation in Hartford, Conn., where he remained until retirement in 1935. Henry Winters Luce was the father of Henry R. Luce, founder of Time, Life, and Fortune magazines.
