Lord was educated at Smith College (A.B., 1887), Bryn Mawr College (M.A., 1890) and Teachers College, Columbia University (Ph. D., 1896). She also attended Newnham College, Cambridge University. Lord taught history at Smith College, 1890-1894 and at Goucher College, 1897-1919. She was warden at Rockefeller Hall, Bryn Mawr College, 1920-1921, was at Wells College, 1922, and returned to Smith College as educational consultant, 1922-1925 and as research associate for the Institute for Coordination of Women's Interests, 1925-1927. She died Dec. 3, 1956.
