Henry Hosford Gurley (1788-1833) was a member of the U. S. House of Representatives from Louisiana for four terms, 1823-1831. His brother, John Ward Gurley (1778-1808), served as the attorney general of the Territory of Orleans. R. R. Gurley (1797-1872) worked with anti-slavery movements and the American Colonization Society.
