Cobb, Madeline W.
Madeline Ware Cobb was born in Milton, Massachusetts, April 16, 1895, the daughter of Bertha Browning Barnes and Ernest Cobb, and descendent of Henry Ware, Professor of Divinity at Harvard College in 1805. She graduated from Fall River High School in 1913 and obtained her A.B. from Radcliffe in 1917. After teaching English for a year in Milton High School (1917-1918) she attended the Prince School of Store Service at Simmons College, where she received a B.S. in 1920. Afterwards she taught retailing at the Prince School and at the Rochester (New York) High School before joining the family business, the Arlo Publishing Company, in 1924 where she served as business manager and later publisher.
