Jones, George, 1766-1838
Variant namesGeorge Jones was born in Savannah, the son of Noble Wimberly Jones. He studied medicine under his father and practiced for several years. He was in the Revolutionary War in it last years, served in both houses of the Georgia Legislature, was an Alderman and Mayor of Savannah, judge of the Eastern Judicial Circuit of Georgia, and a member of the U.S. Senate in 1807.
