Intern in surgery at Duke Hospital from 1939 to 1940; assistant resident in general surgery at Duke from 1940 until 1944; resident in general surgery at Duke from 1944 to 1945; associate professor of surgery and chief of the Division of Thoracic Surgery at Duke from 1947 until his death in 1948. Married Mary Duke Biddle in 1938.
