David Seaman was a birthright Quaker. The son of William and Mary Seaman of Jericho Monthly Meeting of Friends in New York, he was born in 1770. He married Sarah Kirby in 1791. A Hicksite, he was a friend and follower of Elias Hicks throughout the controversy. David Seaman died in 1844.
