Earl Reeves Wasserman, author, educator, and professor of English, at the Johns Hopkins University was born in 1913.

He received his PhD.from The Johns Hopkins University in 1937. Wasserman taught at the University of Illinois but returned to The Johns Hopkins University in 1948. He held the Caroline Donovan Chair in the English Department and in 1954, was a member of the editorial board of the Johns Hopkins Press. Wasserman served as editor of "ELH" and of "Modern Language Notes." He was an authority on 18th century literature and on the romantic poets and wrote several books on those subjects. Wasserman died in 1973.
