Ruth Sayre of Warren County, Iowa earned state, national and international recognition as a spokeswoman on behalf of a better life for rural people, particularly rural women. She was best known for her efforts and positions held with the Farm Bureau and Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW), an organization she helped found. She served as chairman of the Iowa Farm Bureau Women's Committee (1937), Midwest Regional Director of the Associated Women of the American Farm Bureau Federation and president of the ACWW (1947). During the 1950s she was named by President Eisenhower to the National Agricultural Advisory Commission, worked with UNESCO and the Rural Committee of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. She wrote or played a part in many publications, and was a tireless volunteer, serving many different types organizations including the YWCA, the Iowa Federation of Womens Clubs, National Council of Churches, the Iowa Rural Christian Fellowship, the American Library Association, the U.S. Dept. of Labor's Advisory Commission on Civil Defense, etc.

Farmer. Ruth Buxton Sayre (1896-1980) graduated from Simpson College in 1917 with a B.A. in Languages. She married Raymond Sayre in 1918 and became active in the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation. In 1921 she was selected IFBF Director of Women's Activities in her township and became State Chairman of the Women's Committee in 1937. She was also a Regional Director and President of the Associated Women of the American Farm Bureau in the 1930s and 1940s.

Buxton was a member of the Master Farm Homemaker Guild and served as its President, 1935-1937. She was elected President (1947) of the Associated Country Women of the World and also served as President (1940) of the American Country Life Association.
