William E. Crane, 1835-1905, joined the 4th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry in Cincinnati in 1861 and served in the Civil War campaigns in Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia. Crane's company had contact with John Morgan's cavalry and participated in several battles. Crane also served on several court-martials. He resigned from the army in December 1864.
