Prompted by a petition from a Mendon property-holder, Rhode Island determined in 1749 to re-survey its disputed northern boundary with Massachusetts. In April, 1750, committees representing the two states could not agree on a starting point for the survey. Testimony of aged persons relating to the location of the starting point was taken, and the committees agreed to meet at a future time. In 1750/51, it was decided by Rhode Island to refer the unresolved dispute to the King.
