The Society for the Preservation of Spanish Antiquities in New Mexico was incorporated in 1913 and was reorganized into the Spanish Colonial Arts Society in 1929. Among its officers were Mary Austin as director and Frank Applegate as head of Arts and Crafts. The Society is located in Santa Fe and its mission is the preservation, study, and promotion of Spanish Colonial arts and crafts.

From the guide to the Spanish Colonial Arts Society Records, 1913-1965, (New Mexico State Records Center and Archives)

Founded in 1925, the Society seeks to encourage and promote the traditions of Spanish Colonial arts in New Mexico. Largely in decline by the end of World War II, it was reactivated in 1953. By the mid-1990s, it had become a well-organized and very active arts organization.
