John Henry was Senator Bourke B. Hickenlooper's Des Moines based secretary during his last term in the Senate (1962-1968). He also served as drillmaster for the Flying Hoofs of Iowa from 1947 until 1968.
Flying Hoofs of Iowa was an amateur mounted drill-team organization formed in 1945 by the Town and Country Saddle Club of Des Moines. The organization continued until 1977.
