Parkerville Children's Home was founded on a block of 48 acres of virgin bushland in 1903 by two English nuns, Sister Kate and Sister Jane, of the Kilburn Order of Anglican nuns. The home was situated 22 miles from Perth. Its object was to care for unwanted babies who were too young to be admitted to an ordinary orphanage and to give them a chance to grow up to be useful citizens. Usually the children did not leave before reaching the age of eighteen years. In 1934 the home was moved to Queen's Park. Phoebe Freeman lived at the home in the 1930s and 1940s.
