Peter Hurd (1904-1984) was a painter in San Patricio, N.M.
Peter Hurd was born 1904 in Roswell, N.M., and attended West Point from 1921-1923, leaving to begin a career in art. After attending Haverford College, he studied under N.C. Wyeth and attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts from 1924-1926. In 1929, he married Wyeth's eldest child, Henriette, who was also a painter. Peter Hurd died in 1984. Henriette was born in 1907 in Chadds Ford, Pa., and studied at the Normal Art School in Boston in 1920, and later at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. During the 1930s, the Hurds settled permanently in San Patricio, N.M. Paul Horgan (1903-1995), is the author of Peter Hurd: A Portrait Sketch From Life (Austin: University of Texas Press, 1965) and a longtime friend of Hurd. His 1941 novel, "The Habit of Empire", contains lithographs by Hurd.
