Jungle Gardens (Avery Island, La.)
Jungle Gardens, Inc., was created by Edward Avery McIlhenny, owner of Avery Island, Louisiana, as a business venture to grow and sell exotic tropical plants at affordable prices. McIlhenny's interest in wildlife and flora enabled him to acquire a wide variety of plants suitable to the south Louisiana climate.
