William B. Shubrick was an officer in the U.S. Navy. He was born on October 31, 1790 and held many positions during his career, including command of the West India squadron, 1838-1840, CO of the Norfolk Navy Yard, 1840-1843, member and chair of the Lighthouse Board, 1852-1861 and CO of the Brazil squadron, 1858-1859. He died on May 27, 1874.

Admiral Shubrick, a native of Bull's Island, SC, was Chairman of the Lighthouse Board. Other duties that he had during his career include assignment to the Constitution, Hornet, and President. While commanding officer the Epervier, Shubrick sailed through the Straits of Gibraltar in July 1815 and was never heard from again. He was born on September 12, 1788.
